🧑🚀 Your role in our mission
If you have a passion for working with fast-growing tech startups in a distributed work environment come join our People Advisory Team!
As our People Operations Generalist, your mission is to be the tactical delivery engine that helps high-growth startups run clean, compliant, scalable People Operations. This is a hands-on, client-facing role that reports to a People Operations Lead. You'll own a fixed client portfolio, field incoming requests, support tactical delivery across higher-complexity engagements, and partner closely with our People Operations Managers and Payroll Specialists so client work is completed end-to-end.
Responsibilities
Complete onboarding and offboarding administration for incoming client requests, ensuring details are accurate, timely, and well-documented – including employee communications, task tracking, and termination documents.
Manage and maintain essential client employment data within the People Operations tech stack, and act as a liaison between clients and HRIS providers to troubleshoot issues and keep implementation or optimization work moving.
Conduct People Ops audits to maintain accurate employment records and surface compliance gaps before they become client issues.
Draft and maintain policies, employee handbooks, templates, checklists, and client documentation to help clients stay compliant with state and federal regulations and to make delivery more consistent across the service line.
Support federal and multi-state compliance research, organizing documentation and escalating nuanced recommendations for review.
Support People Advisory Managers on higher-complexity clients by preparing materials, drafting recommendations, and keeping projects moving; escalate strategic or higher-complexity decisions with clear notes and proposed next steps.
Partner closely with Payroll Specialists – providing payroll-adjacent support, backstopping urgent items, and coordinating on onboarding/offboarding data entry during high-volume periods.
Own federal and multi-state employment law compliance monitoring – track regulatory and legislative changes, determine which clients are impacted, and draft and send client communications advising on the change and any action needed to ensure compliance.
Flag risks, scope creep, bottlenecks, or client breakpoints early; help reinforce scope and hours caps, service boundaries, and clean handoffs.
Help improve client handoffs by documenting context, playbooks, and open items so work can be picked up smoothly by anyone on the team.
